Byzantion IV is the final piece in a cycle of works referencing the Byzantine Empire; Byzantine art, aesthetics, church chant and mosaics; and three poems by W. B. Yeats: Sailing to Byzantium, Byzantium, and The Second Coming. These artistic influences impact upon each part of the cycle, in different ways.
